Tank Top Propane Heater
Tank top propane heaters are an incredibly simple way of adding a heater to a limited space – and with very little additional unit size.
A tank top heater simply attaches to the top of the canister. Most heaters have an actual unit body, with the heater built in, (and a compartment for the propane tank) – by removing all of these parts, it reduces weight and storage space.
Mounted directly to a gas canister, the small compact heaters usually feature Safety shutoff switches, and have an impressive heat output. Certain models also feature electric ignition.
Reviews of these little heaters vary quite dramatically, and you must consider your requirements before making a purchase.
Tank top heaters are generally designed for outdoor use, possibly as lower cost patio heaters that also require less storage space. They can also be used as small space heaters – though when used indoors you will need to insure you have good ventilation and remember that there could be an unpleasant odor from the burning gas.
If you are thinking of purchasing a tank top heater for use in your garden/yard/patio – it is worth noting that the heat output is directional – typically sending heat in one direction. This is unlike a heater design specifically for a patio that outputs heat in a circle, around the heater. This makes it much easier to the whole patio. The heater can be placed in the centre. With a tank top heater, a central location would mean anything behind the heater would not get hot, or if facing inwards towards the patio, the back would be much cooler then the front. In some situations this may be the required result. But once again, it is worth considering how you will use the heater.
Larger tank top heaters claim to heat areas larger then 800 square feet – and some feature wheels for better portability. Simply place the canister on the trolley, and attach the hose to the heater.
Most tank top heaters use radiant heater – or infra-red, this allows the heater to heat objects not the surrounding air.
