Portable Garage Heaters
Small:
A smaller garage could benefit from a portable heater. The small size and compact design takes up less space, and still produces a good heat output.
Low Cost:
The smaller heaters are inexpensive to buy, and relatively cheap to run.
Portable design:
The designs of portable heaters vary from manufacture to manufacture. Tank Top designs allow you to use the heater and take up very little storage space when not in use. Some designs are based around the gas trolley – allowing for easy maneuverability because of the wheels. There are also the standard square box designs – which although not as portable, are much cheaper.
Choice of Heaters:
There are 2 main choices:
- Gas – natural gas or propane heaters are standalone units, that can be used anywhere, some models are even designed for indoor or outdoor use. These offer the best flexibility when it comes to working location. If you work as a mechanic – you could easily take the portable heater outside on colder nights to work under a car. Then later use the same heater inside. (NOTE: It is important that the heater is designed for indoor/outdoor use. Not all heaters are. Always check before making a purchase if this is a required feature)
- Electric – Electric heaters are very cost effective, and are much safer then gas, for example; there is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. If you have access to plug sockets an electric heater may be the best choice.
Types of heaters:
When it comes to the type of heater – you could either have a heater that blows out hot air or one that heats an element. Forced-air heaters will reach the required temperature faster, but are noisy, while a standard radiator will be much more cost effective. An Electric radiator will also eliminate vertically all safety hazards.
